Clear some forests to cool the planet

This study showing that cutting down forests in high latitudes increases the albedo (reflectivity) of the earth, leading to dramatic cooling, is likely to cause some people to squirm, methinks. Reforestation of agricultural land leads to heating, the study demonstrates, at least in the Northern Hemisphere.

That's the second such study in the past 10 months. We reported on the earlier one here in March 2006.
